Richmond Associates Volunteer with Rebuilding Together Richmond for a Total Renovation of the Williams City Farms Learning Center | THALHIMER GIVES
RICHMOND, VIRGINIA: Thalhimer is taking on a herculean project to completely revitalize the Williams City Farms Learning Center located at 452 E Ladies Mile Road in Richmond. This revitalization is part of Thalhimer Gives’ partnership with Rebuilding Together Richmond for Q2.
Rebuilding Together Richmond’s mission is to strengthen communities by providing critical home repairs, accessibility upgrades, and energy efficiency improvements to low-income homeowners, as well as sprucing up community-wide support systems. And that’s where Thalhimer comes in. Thalhimer Gives was partnered with Williams City Farms to completely revamp the property on behalf of the owner/operator, Shana Williams. In true Thalhimer fashion, we didn’t just commit to the task at hand, but we also took it a major step forward with added materials and supplies to supplement the farm’s functions, including:
- A complete renovation of the site
- Clearing the site of debris and overgrowth
- Restoring the water supply line system
- Coordinating new electrical power to the site with Dominion Power
- Refurbishing the existing storage shed
- Replace the existing greenhouse
- Construction of a new 8’ x 12’ “cooling shed” to store produce
- Construction of a new pergola to be used for the learning center
- Construction of a new produce stand
- Refurbish and build three rainwater collection cisterns
- Refurbish planter boxes and build raised beds
- Install LED light
- Reestablish planting rows and walkways
- New perimeter fencing
- Redesigned entry to include a new retaining wall with an arbor and low fencing
This is all due to the phenomenal work that David Oddo (‘hero’ for Rebuilding Together Richmond) and the Commercial Property Services team in Richmond have envisioned and brought to life, along with collaboration among their local service partners. Thalhimer has planned three volunteer events throughout April, May, and June to transform Williams City Farms.
On April 24th, the Thalhimer team installed the new water lines, one side of the perimeter fencing, and the front retaining wall. In addition, the site was completely cleaned of debris and unwanted overgrowth. In preparation for our day, ProMac Roofing, Schultz Lawncare, and RVA Contracting provided services to clear the site and dumpsters to haul off the debris.
