NEWPORT NEWS, VIRGINIA: The Newport News office recently partnered with the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank, volunteering at a Box Packing Assembly to help fight food insecurity across the region. During the event, volunteers worked together to pack 700 food boxes—equaling approximately 14,000 pounds of food—which will help provide meals and support to more than 1,500 families in need.

Box Packing Assemblies are large-scale volunteer events where participants work along an assembly line to prepare food boxes for distribution. Tasks include assembling boxes, placing food items into the boxes, restocking products along the line, and palletizing completed boxes for delivery to distribution sites throughout the community.

The Virginia Peninsula Foodbank‘s mission is to distribute food effectively through collaborative efforts that minimize hunger, promote nutrition and encourage self-reliance through education. Virginia Peninsula Foodbank provides food assistance to the 1 in 9 Virginians who are experiencing the fears and pains of food insecurity. In collaboration with over 140 partner agencies, families have a place to go when experiencing food and nutrition insecurity.
Their vision is to inspire hope by leading the effort for a hunger-free and properly nourished community.

Each year, organizations are nominated by Thalhimer associates who are actively involved with a non-profit or passionate about its mission. From these nominations, four charities are selected annually in each of our seven markets, with one featured each fiscal quarter. Associates contribute to these organizations, and at the end of the quarter, Thalhimer matches donations dollar-for-dollar, amplifying the impact for the charity of that quarter.

In 2025, we donated a total of $52,465, collected thousands of supplies, and associates volunteered 788 hours to local charities. To date, Thalhimer Gives has donated more than $395,129 to local charitable organizations, and we remain committed to growing that impact year after year.
