VIRGINIA RETAIL | Top 25 Centers Statewide

Using Placer.ai visitor data, we identified the Top 25 Most Visited Shopping Centers in Virginia over the last twelve months, providing a clear picture of where consumers are concentrating their retail spending and daily activity. Placer.ai measures visits by analyzing anonymous mobile device location data to estimate real-world foot traffic patterns. For this analysis, Northern Virginia was excluded to better highlight trends across the rest of the state without the influence of the region’s larger population base and retail density. The centers included in the dataset encompass the full range of ICSC retail categories, including community shopping centers, neighborhood centers, lifestyle centers, factory outlets, power centers, regional malls, strip/convenience centers, and super-regional malls.

At the top of the statewide list is Central Park Marketplace in Fredericksburg, which recorded an impressive 15.7 million visits over the past twelve months, making it the most visited shopping center in the state. Its scale, visibility along I-95, and broad tenant mix give it one of the largest regional draws in Virginia. Across individual regions, several centers stood out as top performers: Short Pump Town Center in Richmond (8.5 million visits), Janaf Shopping Center in Hampton Roads (8.7 million visits), Towne Square in Roanoke (5.3 million visits), and Barracks Road Shopping Center in Charlottesville (6.5 million visits).

Virginia’s retail landscape continues to be anchored by high-performing shopping centers that draw from broad trade areas. With Central Park Marketplace leading all centers statewide, the data underscores the strength of large, accessible retail destinations supported by diverse tenant mixes and strong consumer activity.
