Sub Station II Returning to Blacksburg | Coming Fall 2025
ROANOKE, VIRGINIA, May 9, 2025 – A favorite local restaurant known for its freshly sliced subs and salads has announced its return to Blacksburg this fall, 2025. Sub Station II, a community staple for 37 years, signed the lease on a 2,400 square foot space at 220 Gilbert Street within the Gilbert Place at North End development, just steps away from the Virginia Tech Campus. Sub Station II was represented by Clay Taylor, CCIM and Boyd Johnson of Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer.
Sub Station II, which was operated by longtime owner Hamid LaPuasa, closed its doors in 2023 at his retirement. The new restaurant will be corporately owned at first and aims to honor Hamid’s legacy by continuing to provide the quality and service that made Sub Station II the preferred local sub shop it had become. The Gilbert Place location will offer a contemporary dining setting that will ensure a comfortable experience along with the quality food and customer service that Blacksburg patrons had come to love.
The restaurant will mark the 38th location in the Sub Station II franchise chain and is expected to create 20 new jobs when it opens. This expansion highlights the brand’s ongoing growth and commitment to serving fresh, quality subs with fast, friendly service.
“We’re thrilled to bring Sub Station II back to Blacksburg, a community we’ve been a part of for so many years and to continue the tradition that Hamid began. Who knows, maybe he’ll want a part-time job in retirement?” said Sandi Corbett, President of Sub Station II.
“Gilbert Place is pleased that Sub Station II is returning to the Blacksburg community and that Sandi and her team chose Gilbert Place as their new home,” said Carrie Woodring of Gilbert Place.
