Thalhimer Gives: Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer Establishes Meaningful Partnership with Better Housing Coalition

RICHMOND, VIRGINIA:  Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer partnered with the Better Housing Coalition (BHC) for the second quarter of 2021 through their Thalhimer Gives program, a company-wide initiative focused on community involvement and charitable giving. Through Thalhimer Gives, associates actively engage in the community by donating financially, providing much-needed supplies, and giving generously of their time to local non-profit organizations.

• Donating financially
o Thalhimer associates raised $3,306 for Better Housing Coalition through Friday Jeans. Friday Jeans allows Thalhimer associates to wear jeans every Friday by making a $5 donation to the Thalhimer Gives partner organization, along with a company match.

• Giving generously of their time
o Thalhimer partnered with Better Housing Coalition for several volunteer opportunities and provided associates with paid time off to give back.
      – Thalhimer associates assisted Better Housing Coalition by preparing their raised garden beds for the spring season and also applying a fresh coat of paint to seating benches at one of their senior housing communities, Market Square Senior Apartments in Chesterfield County. Thalhimer associates donated many flowers and herbs, garden soil, fertilizer, garden hoses, watering cans, and plant markers.
      – Richmond associates performed spring cleaning at Better Housing Coalition’s first rental community, Cary West. They painted fences and collected trash around the property.

• Providing much-needed supplies
o Thalhimer associates donated various supplies needed for Better Housing Coalition including garden spades and trowels, garden shears, deck boxes for gardening storage, and gift cards to Home Depot.

“Thalhimer is doing great things for the RVA community and we are so grateful for their partnership this quarter. Over 2,400 low-to-moderate income residents throughout the region call a BHC community home, so in response to the pandemic, we focused on improving outdoor spaces that residents can safely enjoy with their neighbors. The team repainted fences at our Cary West community in the Fan giving the courtyard a much-needed refresh, and associates weren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and endure the heat as they spruced up community gardens at our Market Square senior community in Chesterfield. Additionally, they donated supplies to outfit three additional community gardens! Gardening is a great activity for BHC residents, especially our seniors who have experienced increased isolation over the past year. Not only are they able to socialize and exercise when tending to the garden, but they experience joy in watching things grow and thrive under their care. We thank Thalhimer for supporting our mission and helping our residents have a more welcoming place to call home!”   Sarah Fernald, Director of Community Engagement for Better Housing Coalition.

“Since its founding over 30 years ago, Better Housing Coalition has made a very tangible positive impact on quality of life in RVA. Rather than just talking about improvements to our affordable housing options, they made it happen by building new communities and investing in existing residential communities.  BHC believes that quality housing contributes to success in educational, employment, and health pursuits.  We agree!  Given Thalhimer’s involvement in commercial and residential real estate, it was a natural for our associates to donate money and supplies and to roll up their sleeves and volunteer on improvement projects at the BHC communities,” Lee Warfield, President & CEO of Thalhimer.
