RICHMOND, VIRGINIA: Thalhimer associates volunteered at Sportable’s River City Slam Wheelchair Tennis Tournament, held June 6-9, 2024, at Collegiate School’s Robins Campus.
The Sportable River City Slam, hosting its inaugural International Tennis Federation (ITF) Futures Series event, brought together 71 players from around the globe, with 8 participants hailing from beyond US borders. Featuring a draw of 31 ITF-level players across various divisions, including Men’s, Women’s, Juniors, and Quad Open draws, the competition showcased fierce athleticism and determination. With many ITF players vying for points to enhance their rankings and secure qualification for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris, the tournament not only celebrated the spirit of wheelchair tennis but also underscored the universal quest for excellence and inclusion in sports.
Karla Knight captures the impact: “It was exhausting and very sweaty, work in the beaming sun, but so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the day, and I had a ton of fun. The para-athletes were impeccable to watch play – they are amazing and so intense!!”

About Thalhimer Gives
Founded in 2018, Thalhimer Gives is a companywide initiative focused on community involvement and charitable giving in the markets we serve. Through Thalhimer Gives, our associates actively engage in the community by donating financially, providing much-needed supplies, and giving generously of their time, with paid time off, to local non-profit organizations. To-date, Thalhimer Gives has donated more than $237,565 to local charitable organizations.
Organizations are nominated each year by Thalhimer associates who are actively involved with a non-profit or passionate about the organization. Selection criteria include the organizations’ status as a registered 501(c)(3), their impact on the communities in which we serve, and the opportunities available for Thalhimer to donate financially, volunteer our time through multiple events, and provide supplies. The selection committee also focuses on selecting a diverse group of organizations. Four charities are selected each year, with one highlighted each fiscal quarter. As part of the program, associates donate to each organization and at the end of the quarter, Thalhimer matches this amount and donates the funds to the charity.
In 2023, we donated a total of $40,543, collected thousands of supplies, and associates volunteered 625 hours to local charities.
