RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, September 21, 2026 – The Richmond Tennis Association (RTA) and Thalhimer announced that Westwood Club captured the title at the 33rd Annual Thalhimer Club Challenge, Richmond’s largest and most anticipated tennis competition.

Held September 17-20 at Westwood Club and Salisbury Country Club, the four-day tournament featured 396 doubles matches among the region’s 12 largest tennis clubs.

“This annual event brings the Richmond tennis community together in competition and camaraderie, and we’ve been proud to be its title sponsor for the past eight years,” noted Lee Warfield, CEO of Thalhimer.

Competing clubs included ACAC, Burkwood Swim & Racquet Club, Country Club of Virginia, The Dominion Club, Epic Athletic Club, Hermitage Country Club, Midlothian Tennis Club, Raintree Swim & Racquet Club, Salisbury Country Club, Westwood Club, Willow Oaks, and Woodlake.

“Teams from the Richmond area’s largest clubs train year-round to earn a chance to hoist this trophy each year. The four-day competition has become the most impressive and respected tennis tournaments in the mid-Atlantic and well beyond,” said Warfield. “Thalhimer supports the Richmond Tennis Association in its mission as a non-profit to encourage the growth and love of tennis in the greater Richmond region,” continued Warfield.

Over 500 players and spectators attended the Thursday night kickoff event and nearly 1,000 rostered players battled it out through Sunday. Each team had players competing at the USTA-rated levels from 3.0 to 5.0 and above. The competition was doubles-only with two men’s, two women’s, and one mixed doubles team at each level, except 5.0+ which had one men’s and one mixed doubles team. The qualifying play was held the first three days. Six clubs advanced out of qualifying to advance to the finals on Sunday. The tournament winner was the club that accumulated the most points on the final day.

Westwood Club earned the victory with strong play at all divisions throughout the tournament. As one of the host sites, it was satisfying for them to raise the trophy on their home courts. The competition was close—they beat out the recent two-time winner, Country Club of Virginia, by only a half-point.
